Krabi Special Education Center
The Krabi SEC is a government funded center that provides care and education to children with varying special needs. Children up to 12 years of age attend the center and receive early developmental education and guidance in activities of daily living. There are five areas of focus at the SEC: Physical and Occupational Therapy, Physical Disability, Down Syndrome, Autism, and Hearing Impairment, all of which prepare the children for life outside of the center. Working at the SEC is a challenging opportunity which requires a degree of independence while at the same time providing you with a rewarding experience.
Physical and Occupational Therapy Program
The SEC Therapy program accommodates children in the center and also children visiting the daily clinic. As a volunteer you will be treating children with a range of conditions from Autism to Cerebral Palsy, as well as complex cases. Previous volunteers have set up a basic clinical structure that will be familiar to professionals, which allow you as the volunteer to offer the best possible treatment and advice and to help the development of the service. Unfortunately, due to lack of professional supervision, this particular volunteer program is only suitable for qualified Physical/Occupational Therapists.
Child Care Program
The programs outside of the Physical and Occupational Therapy program provide general education for the students along with one on one interaction that encourages the strengthening of necessary daily activities and social skills. Each child receives an individual lesson plan that is implemented through out the school year. As a volunteer at the SEC working with one or all of these programs, you’ll be acting as a Teaching Assistant and also working with the children one on one. The staff is very welcoming and friendly and open to new and creative ideas that may contribute to the children’s lesson plans and/or benefit their developmental journey. Any personal skills or knowledge you have is greatly appreciated!
