Volunteer Teaching  Internships Abroad

Volunteer Activities

The main objective of teaching at a local Thai school will of course be to teach the children English! Basic lesson plans, materials, and guidance will be provided by the teachers at the school in which you are placed. In combination with your own willingness to learn, your innovative ideas, and your patience, your work at the school will enhance the children’s educational experience.

As a volunteer teaching English in a local school, you will be teaching children of all ages. The children in Thailand are respectful of their teachers and very eager to learn, especially from a new person. As a native English speaker you can help both the students and the teachers improve their knowledge, pronunciation, and confidence related to speaking English. The school day generally runs from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm, and you can expect to teach English approximately 15 to 20 hours each week. Remaining time can be spent preparing lesson plans, assisting in the Kindergarten classrooms, or providing one on one tutoring sessions for students who my need extra help. Creating projects outside of the standard curriculum regarding sports activities, art, music, etc. can also be part of your volunteer work at the school.

  Calendar for the school year:

The school year begins in the middle of May, and the first semester runs until the end of September. There is a one month break during October, and school resumes in the beginning of November; the second semester running from November to the middle of March. The last two weeks of the year, in the beginning of March, are dedicated to examinations, which makes this a difficult time to volunteer in the schools.

Keep this calendar in mind when planning your trip to Thailand.
